The Road to the Grammys 2010
In February 2010, I plan on winning a GRAMMY! Yes, starting today (well even though I have unofficially been working on this but..), I will be marketing, planning, taking steps to receive a GRAMMY in February of 2010. Knowing the timetable of the Grammys that means I must start NOW!.
I have decided that I need to concentrate on myself a little bit more. It has always been so easy for me to talk about what others are doing or how great they are and sit around and wait for them to hear about me instead just letting people know what my goals, my plans and my accomplishments thinking that others would automatically spread the word but we know this is not true. So I have decided to stop being shy or thinking real artists don't talk about what they are doing (yeah right, I know) and to step out there and announce who I am, what I am about, what I want and just claim it!.
Additionally, I want to sell 100,000 CDs before that date. Yeah, as a friend told me there are groups signed to labels that do not sell 100,000 CDS. My response is SO WHAT!
So, thank you all for coming along for the ride. I will be starting a blog discussing my day to day activities for my Road to the Grammys.
As always, any ideas, suggestions, or just plain comments would be great. And by the way, want to help to the 100,000 CD sales. BUY MY CD;)

The Definition of a Queen
Yet, almost everyone knows my infamous sex poem, "I JUST WANNA" (if not check it out below) but anyway, for those who have followed me know that I have gone back and forth about this dimension of my personality and my work. In my personal life, I have always exuded a sexuality around me without trying (I can now say this as fact without someone thinking I am conceited) and thus different images, thoughts and/or opinions were always contrived without people getting to know me (some good, some bad) and growing up this caused a lot of insecurities which I hid from others. (I have to tell you that until this day I have to actively project my voice different on the phone because either people won't hear me or they think I am doing something so if I get too relaxed people always ask what are you trying to prove or who are you trying to seduce but honestly, that is my actual voice which I constantly project differently for everyday conversation).
Then the time came where I grew up, I stopped worrying what others thought about me and embraced all aspects of myself including my sexuality but yet I still had mixed feelings about conveying them in my art performance, poetry, etc... because I guess I did not want to be labeled or have the other poetry that I do diminished because there are those who can't quite grasp the fact that to embrace your sexuality does not make you a slut.
Anyway, let me cut this short, I am also on facebook and there is an individual who was recently added to my friend list. I received an email from him entitled RELIGIOUS VIEWS and the email states I was going to ask you about your religious views but your video turned me off, this is not the actions of a QUEEN!
Ummm, EXCUSE me, I can not stand when people get on their high horses and make assumptions, blah, blah, blah.
Anyway, what are your opinions on this? What makes a QUEEN?! Let me know

BET J Lyric Cafe & I GOT SOUL Music Conference
Sorry I have not been keeping everyone up to date but the last couple of weeks have been crazy. Can I just tell you I was on 6 planes in 7 days. Anyway, let's just say it is all good!
I had not gotten around to telling everyone the exciting news that I had been asked to perform on Season 3 of BET J Lyric Cafe. They just finished taping in Washington DC, June 9 - 11. I taped on the first night and on the second night I watched the first taping and then headed to Baltimore, MD for a performance at KOMPLEX venue (I can not remember the name of the venue right now sorry KOMPLEX). Anyway, myself, Will Da REAL ONE, Sunni Patterson and Malcolm Jamal Warner headed out to Baltimore and the energy was great, the vibe was great and the trip just kept getting better.
SIDENOTE: Can I say that no one can ever tell me anything bad about Malcom Jamal (for those who don't know Theo from the Cosby Show), he is the sweeeeeetest person and is genuinely nice. I had met him previously but really had not had any deep interaction and/or conversation with him and let's just say he is an all around great guy. He taped for the show also on Day 2 so look out for him.
Anyway back to the Rai station:)
Anyway, I was supposed to leave on Wednesday and my dear friend Ingrid convinced me to stay an extra day (more about this later). I stayed and extra day and had the pleasure of watching an additional taping of a new show called MINORITY REPORT (4 comedians on todays news) It was funny, funny, funny. GUYS, you were great.
OH BY THE WAY, I forgot to give a shout out the BAND, you guys are the best ALL OF YOU (I am telling you: - inside joke).
So anyway, Thursday comes around and I should be heading back to Miami because I have a show on Saturday but how did I end up headed to Dallas for the I GOT SOUL Conference???? That is another story I will have to tell you later!
But everybody, look out for my summer tour kicks off in July called 'No Definition Necessary' I will be listing the dates and locations soon but its from July - September and concludes in my home city Miami, Florida with a big spoken word concert, you heard right a concert with band, singers, the works) Anyway, stay tuned. I am on my way to Chicago and Kentucky (Lata)

The Good Life
Like we always do at this time
I go for mine, I got to shine
(Now throw your hands up in the sky)
I g-go for mine, I got to shine
(Now throw your hands up in the sky)
The Good Life
A life that everyone strives for
But few know what the actual life implores
Meaning everyone wants the good life but don't know what type of life is good
For there are many who are happy with only fifteen cents in their jeans
While other have millions and still can't grasp the definition of what happiness means
I bet as Kanye looks back on all the whining and crying he did when he felt
the Grammys and MTV didn't give him his due credit
He would trade it all in
For Just another second
To be with his mom again
Yeah the good life
(I'm on MTV momma Imma put it down) he says with glee
And everytime I heard those words I felt happy
For the joy of knowing that he was happy because his mom was happy
No extras, no money, no cars can replace
the smile that only his mom can put on his face
I mean why do we fight so hard to not appreciate the scars it took to get here
Yet we concentrate on where we still have not been
Not allowing time to appreciate the space we're currently in
For I recall one day sitting at a stop light with tears running down my face
My son in the back seat just looking at me
Wondering what in the world was wrong with his mommy
And as much as I tried to hide
I had finally let the world overwhelm me
Stressing about this bill, wondering how I was gonna live
Without paying my next car note or house note still
When a knock on window disturbed my misery
It was a homeless man selling those homeless paper on the street
And as I reached to give him a quarter he had nerve to tell me
May God Bless You Mama, it will be okay
And instead of thanks I got angry
How could you tell me it's gonna be okay
When you don't even have a place to stay
But instead of speaking I just looked as he grinned at me with his toothless smile
And a light bulb went on and I realized he was the one that was living the good life
(Imma be on MTV momma Imma put it down)
And I'll just bet TI could not appreciate that the street cred
He so desperately wanted to keep
Was worth nothing when now he can only step on streets
To look upat the judge in his court seat
as his song rotates on the radio
He rotates in circles in his house but can't even go
Out and appreciate
The millions that are listening
For his millions could have paid for a bodyguard if it was that deep
But he needed to be strapped for his boys could respect T
But I see his boys just snitched and ditched
And he can't even visit his love ones
And I guess the title of his album should have given us a clue
As he battled the TI he was becoming and the TI his boys from around the way was used to
But in the end TI was the only one to lose
I go for mine, I got to shine, Throw your hands up in the air
Homie, tell me what's good
No seriously tell me
what is GOOD???

Quit Male Bashing
Women bashing men for the situation they are in.
They say every action has a reaction and if you're not responsible
for the action that resulted in your relationship,
then you're held accountable for not reacting
in an acceptable manner that would subtract you
from the situation you have found yourself in.
We begin these new relationships reflecting on the new man
the bad things the other brother did.
Everyday we live in households with our kids and husbands,
yet, we sit around saying, "Girl, all men are dogs!" with our sisters.
But if you're laying down with the dog does that make you a
B---- but don't let a brother call you out that way!
I've heard it said that all men are either gay, married or in jail,
knowing that these men are your
fathers, brothers, uncles and cousins,
what kind of influence did you have on them?
So, it's time to take a note from your book but flip the script
because I'm bashing all these pigeons camouflaged as women.
Now, let's see how it feels to be talked about this way.
For every no-good man, there is a two-minute trick.
For every brother that's run out on a kid,
there's a sister giving birth not knowing who the daddy is,
And for every scrub on the street, there is a pigeon in heat.
For every male without a job,
there's a female waiting in the welfare line.
For every gay brother going the other way,
there are two lesbians making time.
For every drug dealer three times out of jail,
there's a sister spending the loot on Coaches, Lexus'
and more fake hair.
We, as women, can parade up and down the stage all night long
spewing words to bring down the credibility of men.
Yet, in the same instance men can spend an eternity
using the spoken word to discuss women.
But what will it solve?
Being more at odds than before you walked into the room
Two versions of the human species going home ALONE!
What you put out is what comes back to you
As birds of a feather flock together
while you were screaming, hollering and crying
about that no-good man who wrecked your life
Remember, he was just flocking to his own kind.
Let's use our pen and paper to uplift our Greek Gods
for if a young male can only read about his negativity
or how bad he is, is all he hears
what type of male do you expect to rear?
For if all a man hears about himself is that he's good for nothing
Then that's exactly what type of man you will have……….
ONE
who will give you
NOTHING!
Come out and help us uplift and appreciate MEN
